(FACIAL PARALYSIS)

Bell's Palsy

According to Healthline, Bell’s palsy is a condition that causes a temporary weakness or paralysis of the muscles in the face. The condition causes one side of your face to droop or turn stiff.  In most cases, Bell’s palsy is temporary and the symptoms usually go away after a few weeks.

Symptoms of Bell’s palsy include:

  • Drooling

  • Difficulty eating and drinking

  • Difficult making facial expressions

  • Muscle twitches in the face

  • Headache or jaw pain

  • Sensitivity to sound on one side

How acupuncture can help?

According to WHO, acupuncture is proven to effectively in treating Bell’s palsy, and patients reported the overall recovery can be up to 60-70%. The muscle strength when smiling or puffing out cheeks can increase from 20% to 65%.

After around 3-5 treatments, patients can see remarkable symmetry in facial movements; thus acupuncture has been described as effective in treating Bell's palsy.
